I ejcrhsavmhn :— to furnish the use of a thing, i.e. to lend, Hdt ., Ar. , etc. :— Med. to have furnished one, borrow, Eur .; povda" crhvsa", o[mmata crhsavmeno" having lent feet and borrowed eyes, of a blind man carrying a lame one, Anth.

From the sense of consulting or using an oracle v. cravw (C). 3) comes the common sense to use, Lat. uti , Il., etc. ; frevsi kevcrhtÆ ajgaqh`/si he was endowed with a good heart, Od.: c. dat ., crh`sqai ajrgurivw/ to have money to use for a purpose, use it thereon, Plat. ; cr. nautilivh/si, qalavssh/ Hdt ., Thuc.

2. in various relations, ojrgh`/ or qumw`/ crh`sqai to indulge ones anger, give vent to it, Hdt.
b. of external things, to experience, suffer, be subject to, nifetw`/ Id.; cr. galhneiva/ to have fair weather, Eur. ; oJmologiva/ cr. to come to an agreement, Hdt. ; zugw`/ cr. doulivw/ to become a slave, Aesch. ; sumforh`/, suntucivh/, eujtucivh/ cr ., Lat. uti fortuna mala, prospera , Hdt ., etc. ; novmoi" cr . to live under laws, Eur. ; cr. ajnomiva/ Xen ., etc. :—in many cases, crh`sqai merely paraphrases the Verb cognate to its dat. , movrw/ cr . i.e. to die, Hdt. ; wjnh`/ kai; pravsei cr. = wjnei`sqai kai; pipravskein , to buy and sell, Id.; cr. drasmw`/ = didravskein , Aeschin. ; cr. fwnh`/ = fwnei`n, diabolh`/ cr. = diabavllesqai etc ., Plat. c. crh`sqaiv tini ei[" ti to use for an end or purpose, Hdt. , Xen. , etc. ; ejpiv ti or prov" ti Xen .;—also with neut. Adj. as Adv. , cr. tini o{ ti bouvletaiv ti" to make what use one likes of him, Hdt. ; ajporevwn o{ ti crhvsetai not knowing what to make of it, Id.; tiv crhvsomai touvtw/ ; what use shall I make of him? 3. of persons, crh`sqaiv tini , with an Adv. of manner, to treat him so and so, crh`sqaiv tini wJ" ajndri; yeuvsth/ Hdt .; crh`sqaiv tini wJ" fivlw/ Thuc .; also, filikw`" crh`sqaiv tini Xen .; but wJ" is often omitted, e[moige crwvmeno" didaskavlw/ Aesch ., etc. :—also, crh`sqaiv tini (without fivlw/ ) like Lat. uti for uti familiariter, to be intimate with a man, Xen. :— absol. , oiJ crwvmenoi friends, Id.

4. crh`sqai eJautw`/ to make use of ones powers, Plat. ; also, parevcein eJautovn tini crh`sqai to place oneself at the disposal of another, Xen.

5. absol ., or with an Adv. , ou{tw crw`ntai oiJ Pevrsai so the Persians are wont to do, such is their custom, Id.

6. pf. kevcrhmai (in pres. sense), to be in need or want of, to yearn after, c. gen ., Hom. , Soph. , Eur. :— part. kecrhmevno" used as an Adj. , needy, in need, poor, Od., Hes. , Eur.

7. the pf. appears as a strengthd. pres. , to have in use, and so to have, possess, fresi; ga;r kevcrhtÆ ajgaqh`/si Od.

8. aor. I pass. crhsqh`nai , to be used, aiJ neve" oujk ejcrhvsqhsan Hdt .; e{w" a]n crhsqh`/ so long as it be in use, Dem.
